PRINCIPLES OF HIRING ACCURACY

PRINCIPLE

#12
WHERE THERE'S VARIABILITY, THERE'S OPPORTUNITY
Whenever you see turnover, performance, or cultural fit vary across employees in the same role, that's a sign that you have a hiring accuracy problem - and an opportunity.

WHERE THERE'S VARIABILITY, THERE'S OPPORTUNIITY

Lots of companies deal with:
-Employee Turnover
-Performance Issues
-Culture Issues

Some think that for certain roles, these issues have nothing to do with hiring accuracy...

It's true that JOB FIT is driven by not just the person's characteristics, but also the job's.

So how do you know if your employee issues are more a 'hiring problem' or 'job problem'?

The answer?

LOOK AT HOW RESULTS VARY ACROSS EMPLOYEES IN THE SAME ROLE.

For example, if everyone turns over around the same time (e.g., 12 months), it's likely a job problem.

If you're seeing very different results across employees in the SAME role (boss/pay, etc.), however, it's likely a hiring accuracy problem.

The good news?

"Where There's Variability, There's Opportunity."

If you're seeing variability across employees, focusing more on hiring accuracy can present a huge opportunity in your efforts to improve employee performance, retention, or culture.
