PRINCIPLES OF HIRING ACCURACY

PRINCIPLE

#27
A BAD HIRING PROCESS IS WORSE THAN A BAD HIRE
The only mistake worse than a bad hire is a bad hiring process. If allowed to persist, a bad hiring process will spread bad hires and bad results across the entirety of your company.

Principle 26 was about avoiding bad hires.

But there's only one mistake worse for a company than a bad hire... And that's a bad hiring process.

Here's where you might say...

What about a bad strategic decision?
Or losing your largest customer?
Or building a bad product?

It's true the above are bad too...

But the one thing they all have in common...

They inevitably result from a bad hiring process.

Every person you hire goes on to make make countless decisions for your company.

You can't control every decision they make (nor should you).

But what you can control is who gets to make decisions - i.e., who you hire.

A bad hiring process leads to bad hires, which leads to bad decisions - across your entire organization.

A good hiring process leads to good hires, which leads to good decisions - across your entire organization.

If you could make one decision right that would inevitably lead to getting all other decisions right for your company, would you?

You can. Invest in an accurate hiring process.
