PRINCIPLES OF HIRING ACCURACY

PRINCIPLE

#41
EGO IS THE ENEMY OF HIRING RIGHT
I once thought hiring was broken because people didn't know how to hire right. That's true in many cases, but in the worst cases, the problem is EGO (not caring or wanting to improve).

EGO IS THE ENEMY OF HIRING RIGHT

We used to think hiring was broken because people didn't know how to hire right.

Our assumption was 'people would hire right, if they just knew how.'

To our surprise, we now realize while this is true for many, it's not true for all.

Some people don't want to improve their hiring.

There's a lot of reasons for this - ALL OF THEM ARE EGO-RELATED.

1. For some, it's because there's no version of the world in which they are wrong.

[These types can't see the problem.]

2. For others, it's the fear of being wrong & what it might mean.

[These types are held captive by the self-defeating 'I'm a failure, NOT I failed' fallacy].

3. The last groups asks 'why should I improve my company's hiring process. That won't help me in any way?'

[These types were not great hires themselves.]

The good news is if the above doesn't describe you or your company, you'll have a FOREVER advantage over the EGO types.

Don't be afraid to look for ways to improve your hiring process.

Remove ego from the equation & you'll be surprised at what's possible.

(This is true in all areas of life by the way).
